An Interesting Case Study
See an interesting case study here, in this week’s The Lancet:
http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736%2809%2960869-2/fulltext
In Summary: A Macedonian smoker with a heavy smoking history (80 pack years) presented with history of suprapubic pain (sharp exacerbations of a chronic pain, radiating to the back), burning micturition, loss of appetite, nausea, 6 kg weight loss. Urinalysis helped bolster the diagnosis of UTI. But an abdominal CT Scan revealed an infrarenal aortic aneurysm. On operation, the surgeons believed inflammatory processes rather than mycotic ones at work. However, pathology reports showed micro abscesses and growth revealed Brucellosis! Bang’s Disease or Brucellosis, is rare as a cause of mycotic aortic aneurysms.
A good read. Go get the whole of it!

Interesting case, with an even more interesting name must say!
Is there a relation of the smoking history with the manifestation of Brucellosis as a vascular disease?
And quick quiz: most common cause for an abdominal aortic aneurysm?

PS: You seem to have a lot of blogs and sites! Need to keep a track of them.. Care to put up a list
