University Coalition for Global Health-Web Coordinator
Overview:
UCGH is seeking an unpaid volunteer to fill the position of Web Coordinator. This will be an unpaid volunteer position to support the online work of the coalition. Since the work of the volunteer will mainly be done on the web, the volunteer can be located anywhere. The Volunteer must be available for the 2009-2010 Academic year at a minimum.
Mission:
University Coalitions for Global Health (UCGH) is a national action network of U.S.-based global health focused organizations working with young people on education, mobilization and advocacy. The core values of UCGH are:
1. Every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of health – including access to evidence-based health information and prevention, treatment, and care services. UCGH advocates for the progressive realization of these rights.
2. Strengthening health systems, providing comprehensive primary care, addressing the social determinants of health, and implementing evidence-based programs and policies are essential components to achieving the right to health.
3. Advocates must hold the U.S. government accountable to international agreements and targets set to improve global health outcomes
4. Young people must be involved in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and policies that affect their health and well-being.
Job Description
• Develop and maintain online presence of UCGH that will serve as a catalyst for student global health advocacy
• Manage UCGH listserves
• Maintain UCGH Blog(www.ucgh.org)
• Develop and implement web tools to facilitate student global health advocacy
• Develop and implement strategy to use web 2.0(facebook, twitter, youtube, etc) to facilitate student global health advocacy
• Train UCGH National Member Organizations how to use blogging software to create their own posts
• Build connections with other Global Health and Student Advocacy bloggers to create blog rolls, cross-posts etc that will increase traffic on UCGH blog
• Contribute to general outreach strategy of UCGH
Expected Time Commitment
5 hours per month. However, time commitment may vary especially during busy times leading up UCGH National Days of Action. The volunteer must be available for the full 2009-2010 Academic year.
Desired Qualifications
• Strong web editing/production skills, especially familiarity with WordPress software
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience designing websites
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Interest in global health issues and/or student advocacy plus
• Experience teaching people how to use web 2.0 tools
